PRINCESS BABY SNUGGLY

This yarn was gifted to me but it was not a full ball /skein.  I started to make a small blanket, but it was not large enough.  Unsatisfied with what I’d started, this went to the back of my cupboard, and sadly lay there forgotten for quite a lonnnng time. Thanks to the Ravellenics games (haven’t heard of it? Head on over to Ravelry and read all about The Ravellenic Rio Games 2016) … so thanks to these games, I went through my stuff and pulled this one out.. and it’s getting a once-over.  With the passage of time, I’ve also learned about loveys.. and they need a lot less yarn.. and have a really cute end result.. So here’s my lovey.  I have actually ripped out what I’d started with and reworked this whole thing again.. Thanks to the superb Bernat yarn, my work looks spotless.. no one can (I hope .. fingers crossed) say that this is from ‘re-worked’ yarn!

Thank you for joining me.

Inspired by this pin https://in.pinterest.com/pin/470063279839575348/ I’ve made this really cute lovey.

I was not able to figure the pattern out from this link above, so I went ahead and found a chart for a chevron doily which is what I have used.  So, in this write up, you get two choices.  Please visit the link above or the one given just below for the other pattern too.  Thanks.

For this lovely Princess snuggly, I’ve found this really cute pattern from http://stuffsusiemade.blogspot.in/2015/01/princess-leia-blankie-free-crochet.html

and here is what I've made

However, I was not able to follow the instructions for the chevron doily, so checked the internet and found this pin and decided to use part of this chart for my chevron doily.

Now depending on what size yarn you’re using and what size you want your lovey / blanket, you will use either a sc , hdc or dc.

As this pattern can also be used to make a regular doily, I’m going to write the instructions as charted – and you let your creativity flow and use whatever stitch suits you.

A good way to figure out which stitch you want will be to do a quick swatch with the yarn & hook you’re using – and you will get an idea of how big your lovey is going to be.. easy, right?  So let’s start.

Part 1 : Blanket

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo
Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0

Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and 12 dc in that circle.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st dc.
Pull lightly to close the circle.

Round 2 : 2 dc in the 1st dc and in each dc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 3 : dc in the 1st dc ; ch 2, dc in the next dc ;
*dc in the next dc ; ch 2, dc in the next dc* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 4 : dc in the 1st dc ; dc in the next ch-2 sp ;
ch 2, dc in the same ch-2 sp ; dc in the next dc ;
*dc in the next dc ; dc in the next ch-2 sp ;
ch 2, dc in the same ch-2 sp ;
dc in the next dc* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 5 : sk the 1st dc ; dc in the next dc ;
2 dc in the next ch-2 sp ;
ch 2, 2 dc in the same ch-2 sp ; dc in the next dc ;
*sk the next 2 dc, dc in the next dc ;
2 dc in the next ch-2 sp ;
ch 2, 2 dc in the same ch-2 sp ;
dc in the next dc* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 6 : sk the 1st dc ; dc in the next 2 dc ;
2 dc in the next ch-2 sp ;
ch 2, 2 dc in the same ch-2 sp ; dc in the next 2 dc ;
*sk the next 2 dc, dc in the next 2 dc ;
2 dc in the next ch-2 sp ;
ch 2, 2 dc in the same ch-2 sp ;
dc in the next 2 dc* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

So you have understood what we’re doing here.
With each advancing round, we will be adding one dc in the chevron pattern.
So for eg, in Round 5, we have 4 dc in the chevron pattern being formed.
In Round 6, we add 2 sts, and now have 6 dc.
So for Round 7, you guessed it, we will be adding 2 more sts, and we will have 8 dc in that chevron pattern.

Now depending on which yarn you’re using, and how long you want the chevron skirt for your cute doll, you will continue the repeats.  I am however, writing this down as charted, for convenience.

Rounds 7 - 11 : Rep Round 6, increasing 2 dc in each chevron pattern with each round.

In our last round, we will add a picot in the centre of that chevron pattern.
Our picot here will be ch-3 picot, which is (ch 3, sl-st in the 3rd ch from hook)

How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook).  For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).
Here’s a great video https://youtu.be/8s3zVaBcn4s

Round 12 : sk the 1st dc ; dc in the next 7 dc ;
2 dc in the next ch-2 sp ;
ch 1 + picot + ch 1, 2 dc in the same ch-2 sp ;
dc in the next 2 dc ;
*sk the next 2 dc, dc in the next 2 dc ;
2 dc in the next ch-2 sp ;
ch 1 + picot + ch 1, 2 dc in the same ch-2 sp ;
dc in the next 2 dc* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
